Tchaikovsky Discovers America (CD)

A tale of courage and adventure

Tchaikovsky comes to America in 1891 for the grand opening of New York's Carnegie Hall, but the hall isn't finished. He stomps out of the construction site only to be whisked off to Niagara Falls by two children. During the long train trip, he tells stories about Russia, his music, and his fears about conducting the big concert. The children help him compose parts of his "Nutcracker Suite" while drinking tea and eating chocolate. The story is accompanied by glorious excerpts of Tchaikovsky's most famous works, including "Swan Lake," "Nutcracker," and the 1812 Overture.

Length: about 45 min.
